COVID-19 Update: Online & Face-to-Face Classes for Winter 2020/21.
Our Winter 2021 Face-to-Face programmes will run January - February 2021 14:00 - 17:00 with portions available Online 15:30 - 17:00. Maximum class size of 5 students. These sessions will be inspired by weekly themes and will include virtual excursions to London venues associated with the weekly themes. The Hi-London Face-to-Face classes will interact with the Hi-New-York Face-to-Face classes, which will run at similar times (10:00am - 1:00pm Local NY Time), and the Hi-London Online After School Clubs that will take place during the weekday afternoons. It's a small world after all!
As with all Hi-London courses, our Online After School Clubs take place inside and outside the classroom. Each 1.5-hour lesson is inspired by a theme (i.e. "Animal Kingdom" and "What's Cooking?"), and it has built into it a session that takes place at a theme-related venue in London. Exploring London and learning English always go hand-in-hand with us! With the maximum class size set at 8 students, our Online classes encourage a high level of interaction not only between the teaching team and the students but also among the students themselves. Whenever possible, these Online classes are also integrated into our Face-to-Face classes in both London and NY. Available January - March 2021.
Our English language camp for children offers opportunities for students to learn English in a natural, relaxed setting. Themes such as "Scientific London" and "London Jungle" are the focus of each week's English language teaching, with excursions to places like the London Zoo or a children's theatre. Scrubbing floors in a Victorian kitchen, flying kites in Hyde Park, and encountering the Mad Hatter are all fun and engaging ways to practise English with Hi-London.
Our students learn from our teachers and each other. To allow a high level of interaction, the children work in small groups with a 1: 8 teacher/teaching assistant to student ratio among the older children and a 1:4 ratio among the younger ones. The groups are formed based on the children's ages and assessments which are collected before the start of each course. Individual post-programme reports are done for those students who are with us for 2+ weeks.
Our teachers and staff members prioritise the safety and happiness of our students. The team is experienced in moving children from place to place and in engaging with them whilst in transit. We use the time on the Tube or bus as an opportunity to speak and interact with the children, drawing out the shy ones from their shells.
In addition to the group English courses, we offer various optional add-ons. Lunch & Games sessions take place in the cafes, parks and museums of South Kensington. Depending on the interests of the group, the students may be found playing board games or football, tennis or even golf in Hyde Park when the fickle London weather allows.
Our experienced, native English-speaking teachers, teaching assistants and workshop leaders encourage the children to 'have a go' at expressing their thoughts in English as much as possible. They give the young students the tools and the confidence to feel at ease in an English-speaking environment.
We have seen time and time again that this approach to English language teaching is effective and motivating. We have quite a few families coming back to us year after year, challenging us to keep our programmes fresh session after session!
